Meeting on the spot Lighting up the dark Looking for reality Stop covering the scars A puppy tone of joy A spark of pain Shared and true Coming closer Gravity pulling apart This rare alignment of ours Dear boy When your laugh was searching For the sparkle in your eyes Did you climb on the clouds of Earth Did you reach for the Christmas star? Did you jump from Jupiter to Saturn To retrieve the ignition for that smile That lit up everyone searching Seeing the fire and love in your eyes? A wave of sound Leaving your mark Unspeakable lyrics Strummed aloud A wave to part Comfort in silence Sought alone Comfort in silence Found together So much to tell Leaves nothing to say But silence When your laugh was searching For the sparkle in your eyes Did you climb on the clouds of Earth Did you reach for the Christmas star? Did you jump from Jupiter to Saturn To retrieve the ignition for that smile That lit up everyone searching Seeing the fire and love in your eyes? I hope you smile now With a sparkle in your eyes

Let Go 03:18
You see me As nothing than a burden When I have so much to offer I have your back So why are you after my neck We can be there for each other If you stop acting like a warden Silencing me And I feel like nothing’s ever enough While I know I’ve given everything I’ve got And I fear you’ll let me go But I try to hold on with all I’ve got I no longer know what’s real Or what happened In the little time I spent Dreaming in the bed I drag myself in and out of Every day I lose more of Me and you Dead end Are you for real And I feel like nothing’s ever enough While I know I’ve given everything I’ve got And I fear I’ll have to let go But I try to hold on with all I’ve got I won’t roll over Everything falls apart I drop down You break my back Kick me when I’m down Constantly on edge You push me over Distorting my mind Game over But I feel life is never enough So I’m giving it everything I’ve got While I’m scared to let myself go I go for it with all I’ve got

Hear Me 00:32
You’re watching But you don’t see me You’re touching But you don’t see me You’re listening But you don’t hear me

You say you stand for strength in unity Yet show no concern for equality Act as if people are your property We see you judge a book by its cover Define people by race, faith or gender You’ll soon hear the sound, if you do Of us crossing swords with you You say you stand for strength in individuality Yet you consume without paying fairly Act as if everything’s your property You care only about your own satisfaction Indifferent to consequences of your actions You’ll soon hear the sound, if you do Of us crossing swords with you We will always battle against Your narrow-minded way of thinking No matter how much ground you gain We will not let you threaten our way of living We will always strive against you So you think you can take whatever you please So you think that you're invincible, well, think again We will never give in We will never give up Now that we’ve found ourselves To be at swords point We seem to be blindsided As a new deadly force Is closing in on us Taking anyone down So easily It chills to the bone But how can we beat this If we both point a sword At two enemies at once We cannot beat this Unless we both point a sword In the same direction for once To strike down this common foe We have to forge a three-edged sword Together So you think we could defeat whatever we please Yes if we join forces we'd be invincible, so think again We would never give in We would never give up We are gonna beat this Only if we drop this Attitude of superiority, hostility, bigotry Yeah, we are gonna beat this If both of us just take up The sword for sympathy, solidarity, empathy Let's wield our swords as one To fight this plague of destructivity Together, 1-2-3-4, now

about

ALL PROCEEDS GO TO 113 SUICIDE PREVENTION. We all face our own battles in life: with/against ourselves, illness, each other or the world. It has often helped Mantle Plume to hear her feelings reflected in music and lyrics. With her self-written songs (sounding as intense as a real mantle plume coming from the core of the earth) she wants to provide the same for others.

Singing or shouting at the top of her guitar riffs, Mantle Plume propels abnormally hot alternative rock with a punk attitude, multilayered lyrics and a drive, energy and intensity like a volcanic hotspot.

Mantle Plume wrote the 4 songs on ‘In The Heat Of Battle’ during the Covid-19 pandemic. “A time when the whole world should have come together to face a common threat, but instead kept pointing fingers at each other while fighting to be the first to get their hands on masks and vaccines, with rich countries and companies profiteering from poorer countries and people once again”, Mantle Plume fumes. It seemed everyone was battling: some for physical health, some for freedom, some for mental health.

During that time Mantle Plume participated in the ‘Artist in Progress’ program at BMEC College of Music. Sadly one of her fellow artists there, singer-songwriter Toon Mentink, took his own life on the day the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn took place. “That's when they stand so close to each other that it looks as if they form 1 star, but in the Netherlands it was too cloudy to see it, which I find symbolic. I wrote the song ‘Great Conjunction’ in remembrance of Toon, hoping it can bring something of meaning to his family, friends and to anyone who has lost someone dear”, Mantle Plume shares. Toon’s buddy Jack Guns joined her on bass and Tim Bastiaanse (another fellow artist/producer at BMEC) mixed the song, capturing their warm memories, grief and road to recovery together.

From those warm sounds to the kaleidoscopic phoenix-like ‘Let Go’, the tongue-in-cheek experimental noise of ‘Hear Me’ and engaging in (vocal) battle with Finn Rombouts in the punky duet/duel ‘Crossing Swords’, the EP - exclusively released on Bandcamp - ‘In The Heat Of Battle’ presents a very different sound for each battle, yet always fiery and intense, characteristically Mantle Plume.

If you feel like you can’t handle your battle anymore, or are worried about someone, please call 0800-0113 (in the Netherlands) or chat on 113.nl (worldwide) with the people of 113 Suicide Prevention (or check findahelpline.com for an organisation in your country). They are there 24/7 to listen to you, confidentially. Talking about it helps. You have nothing to lose.
